TED is a no-profit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-dayconference in California 30 years ago, TED has grown to support its mission with multiple initiatives. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman.
The annual TED Conference takes place each spring in Vancouver, Canada along with the TEDActive simulcast event in nearby Whistler. The annual TEDGlobal conference is held once a year in different locations. TED's media initiatives include TED.com, where new TED Talks are posted daily; the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world get help translating their wishes into action; TEDx, which supports individuals or groups in hosting local, self- organized TED-style events around the world, and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

A true rebel and audacious woman from the very early age Ekaterina pursued quite a linear path towards becoming a career woman: she graduated from the best Universities in Russia and Italy, and was climbing the career ladder at Google until she realised it wasn’t exactly the road leading to a happy life. She refused to continue on the same path, quit the “dream job”, and followed her real dream of becoming a successful fashion illustrator. The key to her success was defying social stereotypes and removing labels she carried her whole life. This is what Ekaterina will share with us during her TEDx talk.

Andrea, twenty five year old, comes from Sicily, he is a graduate in the field of communication with a master in international cooperation. From Ragusa with love, it is appropriate to say, Andrea has left for the five continents to find the orphanages around the globe and meet children, play with them, give to them a day of laughters and friendship, the true one. As speaker, he has been present at the Chamber of Deputies (Rome) and the United Nations (NY) where he was invited to talk about his journey of solidarity around the world, to recount his experiences, his encounters with different cultures, but especially with children, those children who, despite they have nothing, can give always a simple smile. Andrea’s experience has already inspired a lot of people. A brain tumor discovered just over ten years ago, the hard fight against the evil. A battle won, but has inevitably marked Andrea’s life, who often says "I woke up with no memory and a bad ability to concentrate." Four years later he left for Africa and on his return to Sicily, he was the first to be surprised to remember every face, every smile and every encounter. A new beginning for Andrea who has been able to teach all of us that every experience, even the most tragic, can turn into something positive and even magical.
